Timing of submission. You must submit your dissertation within your maximum period of study (i.e. by your submission date). Your submission date will take into account of any suspensions or extensions you have been granted, including any approved emergency extensions near the point of submission (see Section 4.3 and Section 6.4 of the Regulations and Code of Practice for Research Degree.
A PhD thesis should represent an original contribution to knowledge, demonstrate that you can exercise independent judgement and be worthy of publication in whole or in part in a learned journal or the equivalent. All students in MDS wishing to study for a PhD are first registered onto the MSc by Research programme and expected to progress to PhD by going through a formal upgrade process after.
The thesis submitted to Turnitin must be an exact copy of the thesis submitted for examination (notwithstanding any material such as diagrams, images and tables that may need to be excluded due to file size) and must be submitted at the same time. The submission is stored in the Turnitin database, which allows it to be checked against all previous Turnitin submissions. Please note that theses.
